We are currently in the early stages of building a new house. This being our first time building, the pressures add up quickly. The amount of thought and details that must be ironed out prior to even starting is mind blowing. Every square inch has to be thought out and decisions on how you will use a space that hasn’t even been built yet must be calculated. How big does this room need to be? Do we really need this? How much does this cost? The list goes on and on.
As I was praying this morning, the thought of the Trinity of God was on my heart. How can 1 person be 3 or 3 persons be one, Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit? The logical thought of this perplexed me. Now let me be clear, I wasn’t doubting but searching and asking for a simpler way to understand. What can be complex for us is seemingly simple for God. The things of heaven are not the things of Earth so how could we possibly understand except to ask someone who knows both sides? Jesus simplifies these truths many times through scripture in the use of his parables, miracles, and other teachings. What is hard for us to understand is already fully known by God. In the book of James, verse 1 chapter 5 it says if we lack wisdom we can ask God who gives generously without finding fault, and it will be given. God, the creator and knower of all things, wants to share with us His knowledge and understanding, just like a good father wants to share what he knows to his children. So here I was, asking.
God showed me a door. A simple door that entered into a house. I could only see the door, not the exterior of the house, not the landscaping, not the windows, only the door. This door felt familiar though, like I was welcome to just walk right in. No need to knock or ring the bell, just turn the knob and walk in.
The psalmist David said,” I will live in the house of the lord forever” Psalm 23:6. This door was the entrance to God’s home and Jesus is the door! There is only one way into the house of God and that is through Him. You might be thinking, there might be another way to get in the house, through the window, maybe a back door. No, there is only one way into Gods house and that is through the front door. Attempting to enter any other way will get you tossed out but anyone who enters through the front door is welcome. Another thought you might think was, what if I owned the house? That might work, but the only currency accepted to make that purchase would be the value of your own righteousness and perfection. Sadly my friend, you don’t even come close to having enough. You see, there is no way except through Christ.
So how does the Holy Spirit fit into any of this? Jesus says it was good for Him to go (die on the cross) so that he could ask God to send the Holy Spirit down to help us (John 14:16). The Holy Spirit’s job is to get you ready to enter the house. Before you accepted Jesus, you were covered in dirt and filth (sin). I don’t know about you but you don’t come into our house if you are covered in mud or dirt, you wash off outside before you come in. This is the job of the Holy Spirit. He cleans you and helps keep you clean before entering God’s home. God is so holy that any amount of dirt or filth would not be welcomed into his home so we must be cleaned before we enter. Before the last supper Jesus illustrates this to us by washing his disciples feet. Simon Peter asks Jesus to wash his whole body and Jesus responds by saying “ A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. Once we become believers and followers of Christ we are made clean and the Holy Spirit helps keep us clean while we are still outside of God’s home. Our feet will remain dirty because we still live in this world but Jesus will wash our feet one final time before we make the glorious entrance into our new home, God’s home.
My final thoughts are this. A home is not a home without a door. Just as a fruit tree is not a fruit tree if it does not bear fruit. God is calling us home and is waiting for us just on the other side of that door but it is only through His son Jesus Christ that we may enter. I know this post doesnt have much to do with business but I believe God wants us to use his spirit to help lead us and guide us and I cant think of a place that requires more decision making than in a business. Hope this helps, God bless!
