Feeling busy and disconnected from God?

I was reading this morning in Matthew chapter 22 and Jesus goes into the Parable of the Great Feast. I’ve always loved the parables that Jesus does. They are so multidimensional, like an onion, every time you peel one layer there is a fresh new layer or understanding underneath.

As I was reading this parable there was one sentence that stood out to me, “ But the guest he had invited ignored them and went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business.”. I couldn’t help but feel God was trying to speak to me. Lately, busy seems to be all that I am. Rushing like crazy from sun up till sun down and neglecting quality time with God. Of course I rationalize this in my head and say things like,” Its only 1 day” or “This (insert job or task) really needs my attention” but what if all this toiling has caused me to miss an invitation from God? What if he is trying to use me and I am too “busy” to hear him.

As I am writing this I am reminded of something Erwin McManus, a pastor out in California, said in a podcast he was interviewed in. He said, “The most religious thing you can do is make a choice”. Isn’t that so true? It seems like everything in religion is based off the choices we make. That old chorus rings in my head, “I have decided to follow Jesus”, the greatest choice of all.

If you are reading this and your business or life has you feeling rushed, busy, disconnected from God then start with simply making a choice. Choose to slow down and be with our Father. God has a funny way of multiplying and making the time you need for other things when you put him first. Busy is a tactic of Satan. He knows if he can keep you from connecting to God regularly then you will start to slowly drift. In business our days are filled with choices to make but don’t let those choices keep you distanced from God.
